Jet2 Flight Diverts to Brussels After Onboard Brawl Over Alleged Racist Remarks — Two Passengers Removed and Banned

On Feb. 12, a Jet2 flight traveling from Turkey to the UK was diverted to Brussels after a physical altercation broke out between two passengers onboard. Jet2 characterized the conduct as appalling and said the plane landed so authorities could remove the individuals involved.

A Jet2 spokesperson told PEOPLE that both passengers were taken off the aircraft by Brussels police and that the flight subsequently continued to Manchester. The airline confirmed it has banned the two individuals from flying with Jet2 for life and will pursue repayment of costs incurred because of the diversion.

Jet2 said it takes a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour and apologized to customers and crew who were affected.

An eyewitness account published in The Sun alleged the dispute began when one passenger made racist remarks; according to that account, the situation escalated despite repeated attempts by cabin crew to calm those involved.
