What Happened
According to the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO), a male suspect boarded the bus and opened fire, apparently targeting two other men on board. The gunfire struck a 25-year-old female passenger, who was rushed to a hospital and later pronounced dead, METRO Police Chief Ban Tien said.
Houston police said a 16-year-old male later went to a local hospital reporting he had been wounded in the incident; his condition was not immediately known. Authorities released photos of two suspects—believed to be between 16 and 18 years old—and asked the public for tips.
Response and Investigation
METRO said the bus operator immediately stopped the vehicle and followed protocol to safely evacuate the remaining passengers. METRO and Houston police canvassed the area while detectives collected evidence and reviewed surveillance footage from the bus. Witnesses also spoke with investigators.
"It was only two shots," a passenger told KHOU-TV, adding he believes the person who was hit was struck in the leg.
Authorities asked members of the public to avoid the immediate area while officers worked and encouraged anyone with information or relevant video to contact Houston police or METRO investigators.
