An 18-year-old Pennsylvania teen has been arrested in West Virginia after allegedly shooting his parents on Dec. 26, the day after Christmas, leaving his mother dead and his father wounded while the couple's younger children were inside the family home.

According to a release from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), officers responded at about 1:58 p.m. local time to a reported shooting at a residence on Garrison Road in Freeport Township. When officers arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound; she was transported to a hospital in nearby Morgantown, W.V., where she later died. An adult male victim at the scene was also taken to the same hospital and was later released in "stable condition."

The PSP identified the alleged shooter as 18-year-old Jarrod Noll, the son of the two victims. The department said Noll fled the scene on foot after the incident, prompting an extensive multi-agency manhunt. "We used tracking dogs, we used helicopters, and we used police on foot searching rough terrain," PSP Sergeant Richard Sizer told CBS News. The PSP warned the public that the suspect "may be armed and dangerous" and advised anyone who saw him not to approach.

In an update posted on X (formerly Twitter) at 6:01 p.m. on Dec. 27, the PSP said Noll was taken into custody by the West Virginia State Police "without incident." He is being held in West Virginia pending extradition to Pennsylvania.

The PSP noted that the teen's younger siblings were inside the family home at the time of the shooting, although the department said the shooting itself occurred outside the residence. The children have been placed in the custody of a family member.

Noll faces charges that include homicide and attempted homicide, according to news reports. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and will pursue extradition and prosecution in Pennsylvania.
