Authorities arrested Troy Scott Jordan on Dec. 23 and booked him on a second-degree murder charge in the 2017 death of 40-year-old Donna Arceneaux, who was found shot inside her Franklinton, Louisiana home on Oct. 24, 2017. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, though that finding was not immediately shared publicly and had prompted earlier speculation. The sheriff’s office called the arrest a significant development but has not released details about evidence or Jordan’s legal status; the investigation remains active.

Authorities have announced an arrest in the eight-year-old cold-case killing of a Louisiana mother of three. On Dec. 23, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office said that Troy Scott Jordan was booked on a charge of second-degree murder in the 2017 death of 40-year-old Donna Arceneaux.

Arceneaux was found inside her Franklinton home on Oct. 24, 2017, with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers had responded around midnight after two friends, who had been unable to reach her, went to check on her welfare. An autopsy later determined her death was a homicide.

The sheriff’s office described the arrest as a “significant development” and thanked local agencies that assisted in the investigation. Officials say the probe remains active and have not released details about the evidence or the investigative steps that led to the arrest. It is also unclear whether Jordan has entered a plea or retained legal counsel.

“There’s no way she did that. She wouldn’t have left her daughter,”

Family members said they never believed Arceneaux took her own life; at their request the case was later turned over to state police in hopes of identifying leads local investigators might have missed. Pigott remembered her sister as outgoing and adventurous and said Arceneaux ran a small spa from her home.

The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office has said the investigation remains ongoing. Booking on a charge is not a determination of guilt; anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
