Florida Man Arrested in Connection to 1997 Murders of Tanya “Peaches” Jackson and Her Young Daughter

Florida Man Arrested in Connection to 1997 Murders of Tanya “Peaches” Jackson and Her Young Daughter

Summary: A Tampa man, 66-year-old Andrew Dykes, was arrested on Dec. 3 on a Nassau County warrant in connection with the 1997 murders of Tanya Denise Jackson and her two-year-old daughter, Tatiana. Genetic genealogy identified the victims in April 2025; Jackson had been known as "Peaches" and Tatiana as "Baby Doe." Tatiana's remains were found in 2011 on Long Island, linking the case to the Gilgo Beach investigations. Authorities previously offered a $25,000 reward and continue to develop the case.

Suspect Arrested in Decades-Old Long Island Homicides

A Florida man was taken into custody on a Nassau County warrant on Dec. 3 in connection with the 1997 murders of Tanya Denise Jackson and her two-year-old daughter, Tatiana Marie Dykes. Authorities arrested 66-year-old Andrew Dykes of Tampa, Florida, who appeared before a Florida judge on related murder charges the following day.

Victims Identified Through Genetic Genealogy — The mother and child were long-standing cold-case victims. Jackson, a U.S. Army veteran who was 26 when she was killed, had been known to investigators for years by the nickname "Peaches" because of a distinctive peach tattoo. Her daughter was previously referred to as "Baby Doe." In April 2025, modern genetic genealogy testing identified both remains as Jackson and Tatiana Marie Dykes.

Tatiana's remains were recovered in 2011 along the southern shore of Long Island, an evidence discovery that had linked the case to the wider Gilgo Beach investigations. In 2023, architect Rex Heuermann was arrested and later charged in connection with several Gilgo Beach deaths, but he was never charged in the deaths of Jackson and her daughter.

Nassau County authorities previously offered a $25,000 reward for information in the case. Law enforcement agencies involved in the recent arrest have made limited public comment as investigators continue to develop the case and work toward potential extradition and prosecution in New York.

Note: Media reports indicate the arrest is a significant development in a decades-long effort to resolve two homicides that spanned state lines and multiple investigative eras.
