Shocking Video Shows Small Plane Make Emergency Landing On I-95, Striking Toyota Camry

Viral footage shows a Beechcraft 55 making an emergency landing on I-95 in Florida, striking a Toyota Camry after the pilot reported engine trouble. The Camry’s 57-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Viera Hospital; the pilot and a 27-year-old passenger were uninjured. Troopers closed the southbound lanes while emergency crews responded, and the FAA has opened an investigation.

A viral video captured Monday evening shows a small multi-engine Beechcraft 55 making an emergency landing on I-95 in Florida and striking a Toyota Camry after the pilot reported engine trouble.

Jim Coffey and his son, Peter Coffey, were driving southbound on I-95 at about 5:45 p.m. when they filmed the aircraft as it passed overhead. The plane then descended and its landing gear struck the Camry ahead of them, crushing the sedan against the median and scattering debris across the southbound lanes.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the Camry’s driver, a 57-year-old woman, was taken to Viera Hospital with minor injuries. The pilot and a 27-year-old passenger walked away unhurt and declined transport to the hospital. Troopers closed the affected stretch of the interstate while emergency crews cleared the scene.

Eyewitness Account

“I noticed it was there, because there’s a plane right there... I thought it might maybe aim around and not hit the car, but bam, the wheel just smacked right dab on the back of the car,” Peter Coffey told Spectrum News 13.

“Fortunately, the car didn’t roll, it kind of mashed and went to the side,” Jim Coffey added.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not yet identified the mechanical issue that forced the descent. The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into the incident, and local officials said the matter remains under review.

The footage circulated widely on social media after being shared online; news outlets have published portions of the clip showing the dramatic landing and aftermath.
