Two masked burglars broke into Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital in Brentwood, Calif., on Dec. 6 and stole specially made bags containing urns with pet ashes after failing to open the clinic’s cash register. Surveillance footage timestamps the break-in at about 6:00 a.m.; officers discovered a shattered glass door when they arrived around 8:00 a.m. The clinic posted the video and pleaded for the ashes’ return, calling them of deep emotional value to grieving families. Anyone with information or who finds remains is asked to call the Brentwood Police at 925-809-7911.

Two masked suspects forced their way into Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital in Brentwood, California, in the early hours of Dec. 6 and left with bags containing urns of pet ashes, authorities said.

What Happened

Surveillance footage from the clinic shows the break-in occurred at about 6:00 a.m. Officers were called to the business around 8:00 a.m. and found one of the clinic's glass doors shattered, the Brentwood Police Department said in a statement. No suspects were inside when police arrived.

Inside the Clinic

Police say the two masked burglars entered through the broken door and attempted to access the cash register but were unsuccessful. While inside, they removed specially made bags containing urns with pet ashes and left a few minutes later through the same damaged door, departing the area by unknown means.

Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital: “These ashes hold deep emotional value, and we are desperate to get them back to the people who loved these pets. No family should have to experience this level of grief again.”

The clinic posted the surveillance video on social media and urged anyone with information to contact the hospital and the Brentwood Police Department immediately.

Police have asked anyone who finds any pet ashes, urns, paw prints, or containers discarded in Brentwood or nearby areas to call the Brentwood Police at 925-809-7911. The hospital emphasized it is not concerned about other items taken — they only want to recover the remains so they can be returned to grieving families.

People magazine and Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital have both reached out to the Brentwood Police Department for additional comment.
