Oklahoma County prosecutors have upgraded charges against Darci Lambert and Jorden McGuire to first‑degree murder and two counts of animal cruelty after their 2‑year‑old daughter, Locklynn Rose McGuire, was found dead on Nov. 18 with injuries consistent with an animal mauling. Authorities say four dogs (three reportedly malnourished) and two bearded dragons were seized and that evidence suggests the same dog had previously attacked the child. Prosecutors allege the parents knowingly left the toddler in harm's way; both remain jailed on $1 million bond and face life imprisonment if convicted.

Oklahoma County prosecutors have upgraded criminal charges against a young couple after their 2‑year‑old daughter was fatally attacked by a dog inside the family home.

Darci Lambert, 24, and Jorden McGuire, 34, were charged on Dec. 8 with first‑degree murder and two counts of animal cruelty, the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office said. The pair had initially been booked on second‑degree murder charges.

Investigation and Scene Details

Oklahoma City police responded to the residence on Nov. 18 after a report of a child not breathing. Officers who entered the home found the toddler dead with injuries investigators describe as consistent with an animal mauling.

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare removed four dogs from the home, three of which were reportedly malnourished, and also seized two bearded dragons. Investigators say evidence indicates the child had previously been attacked by the same dog and sustained serious injuries.

Prosecutors' Allegations

The district attorney's office alleges Lambert and McGuire "maliciously failed to protect their child and permitted her to remain in the presence of a dangerous, malnourished dog, fully aware of the serious risk of harm." Prosecutors said they upgraded the charges after reviewing what they called the "horrendous details of the case."

"Detectives learned that the child was left in that room with the animal for a substantial period of time before she was discovered deceased," Oklahoma City Police Staff Sgt. Dillon Quirk told reporters.

The child was identified by relatives on a GoFundMe memorial page as Locklynn Rose McGuire. The fundraiser described her as "curious, gentle, and full of joy," and said her loss has left the family "shattered."

Legal Status and Potential Penalties

Both defendants remain in custody on $1 million bond. It was not immediately clear whether they have entered pleas or retained attorneys. If convicted of first‑degree murder in Oklahoma, they could face life imprisonment.

This account is based on the district attorney's announcement and police statements. The charges are allegations; the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
