Parents Arrested After Death Of 18‑Month‑Old In Nibley, Utah

Mitchell and Carrie Murray of Nibley, Utah, were taken into custody months after their 18‑month‑old daughter, Ruby Murray, was found dead in March. Local outlets including KUTV, KSL and The Herald Journal say both parents were booked on suspicion of felony aggravated murder and felony aggravated child abuse; officials have not publicly confirmed whether formal charges have been filed.

Investigators Cite Malnutrition And Dehydration

According to a probable cause affidavit cited by multiple reports, investigators determined Ruby died of dehydration and malnutrition. She was found in her crib with several sippy cups and some waffles nearby. The affidavit reportedly quotes the parents as saying they fed their daughter three times a day with snacks in between, but also notes Ruby had been given commercial baby food only once or twice.

Baby Monitor Footage And Parental Statements

Police reviewed baby monitor footage covering the four days before Ruby's death. The footage reportedly showed Ruby was removed from her crib for a total of about six hours during that period and was with another person for under an hour. The affidavit also says Carrie Murray admitted she had not checked the monitor in months.

Reported Statement: When questioned about her daughter's death, Carrie Murray allegedly told investigators, 'It was her time.'

Sources say Carrie also allegedly told investigators the family were "not table people" and that Ruby often ate in her crib because she did not like being fed at the table.

Ongoing Investigation And Sources

Investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding Ruby's final days. The details in reporting to date are drawn primarily from a probable cause affidavit and local news reports. The child's obituary identified her as Ruby Murray.
