Five Students Hospitalized After Eating Marijuana Gummies at Stranahan High School
A Florida mother says her 14-year-old daughter and four classmates were taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after ingesting marijuana-infused gummy candies during school hours at Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale.
Tshura Jones told local outlets that her daughter was given a gummy by another student and believes the teen was deceived or "drugged." Jones said medical staff at a nearby hospital placed an IV and that the teenager briefly appeared unresponsive before being released.
"I don’t put anything past any child, but the bottom line is she was drugged. I’m going to press charges," Jones told WSVN.
In an interview after her release the student described being "shaken," saying the item was removed from a green bag, "tasted like candy" and produced what she called an "out-of-body experience."
The Broward County Public School District issued a statement saying Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded after several students appeared to have an adverse reaction to ingesting gummies and that, "out of an abundance of caution, five students were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation." The district added that the students involved received disciplinary consequences in accordance with the District's Code Book for Student Conduct and emphasized that student safety and well-being are a top priority.
Local reporting from WSVN, Local 10 News and NBC 6 says no criminal charges had been filed as of publication. Jones also told reporters her daughter was suspended for 10 days for consuming drugs at school and that she no longer feels safe sending her back to campus.
Context and Next Steps
Marijuana edibles can be more potent than smoked cannabis and can affect adolescents unpredictably. Jones — who said she previously worked in a rehab facility — expressed concern that more dangerous substances, such as fentanyl, could have been involved, underscoring broader community worries about drugs in schools.
Authorities have not publicly released toxicology results for the gummies. Any criminal investigation or testing would be handled by law enforcement; local outlets and PEOPLE reported on the incident.

A mother alleges her 14-year-old was given an edible by another student and plans to press charges. The district says students were evaluated and disciplined; no criminal charges have been reported publicly yet.
