Karly Rae, a 37-year-old former high school teacher, has pleaded guilty to multiple offences after admitting to sexual contact with a 15-year-old student. Court records show Rae entered guilty pleas to charges including sexual abuse of a minor, possession of child abuse material, grooming for unlawful sexual activity, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Prosecutors say the sexual contact occurred in October 2024, the same month Rae was arrested. She appeared in court roughly eight weeks after giving birth to a child. Following her initial release on bail, authorities later returned her to custody in January after investigators allege she made repeated contact with the teenager and attempted to influence his account of events.

“In the course of those calls, it’s alleged [Rae] sought to persuade the complainant to give a false version of events,” said Justice Hament Dhanji at a bail hearing.

The teenager reportedly told his mother about the exchanges. Family members say social media messages between the pupil and Rae prompted relatives to alert the boy’s parents, who then contacted police. Rae has since lost her position at the school where the student was enrolled.

At the time of her arrest, Rae told investigators she believed the pupil was not underage; court orders now prohibit her from being alone with anyone under 16 pending sentencing. The matter is scheduled for a sentencing hearing in March 2026.
