Family GP Found Dead Near Sandringham After Hosting Children’s Sleepover — Man Arrested

Dr Hannah Terry (also known as Hannah Cain), a GP in her 40s, was found dead at her detached home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, after reportedly hosting a sleepover for friends of her children. Emergency services were called shortly after 2:20am on Sunday 4 October and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and was taken into custody at the King’s Lynn police investigation centre. Norfolk Constabulary confirmed a superintendent's extension was authorised to hold him for an additional 12 hours while enquiries continue.
Forensic teams were at the property on Monday, with officers in white suits and specialist personnel searching the house and grounds, including combing undergrowth. The couple bought the house jointly in March 2021 for £760,000; the property is believed to back on to land that forms part of the King’s Sandringham estate. The scene remained cordoned off and floral tributes were left outside.
It is understood that children staying overnight at the house were taken to safety by police in the early hours. Dr Terry lived with her husband, Mark Cain, and worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre; the practice closed temporarily on Monday. A notice on the surgery website said the centre, including the dispensary, was closed due to "extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team" and that patients would be contacted about alternative arrangements.
Dr Terry also carried out private work at Norfolk Sky Aesthetics. She had joined Grimston Medical Centre last year after leaving Heacham Group Practice in June; colleagues at Heacham said she left to spend more time with her young family and were sad to see her go after nine years of service.
Investigation Underway
Detectives from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team have launched a murder inquiry. Detective Inspector Alix Wright said officers were in the early stages of establishing the exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and urged anyone with information to come forward.
"We are in the very early stages of this investigation. If you believe you may have information that could help, please contact us," Det Insp Alix Wright said.
Neighbours expressed shock and sadness. One described Dr Terry as "a lovely human being with three gorgeous young children," while others said serious incidents were rare in the normally close-knit village of Dersingham.
Help us improve.
