The IDF reported two separate approaches by suspected Syrian operatives to posts in the southern Syria Security Zone on Sunday and Monday. Army Radio said the individuals were unarmed and appeared to be gathering intelligence. One suspect was killed after failing to obey IDF orders; two others were detained on Monday, one hospitalized with a chest wound in Safed. Local Golan leaders called the events a "warning sign" and urged stronger security, while the Carmeli Brigade destroyed several Assad-era explosive devices and mines.

Suspected Syrian operatives made separate approaches to Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) positions in the southern Syria Security Zone on Sunday and Monday, Army Radio and KAN News reported. Military officials say the individuals appeared unarmed and likely sought to gather information about IDF alertness and response procedures rather than carry out an immediate armed attack.

On Monday, the IDF said troops fired toward and detained two men who rode a motorcycle up to an IDF post in southern Syria. No Israeli soldiers were injured. One of the detainees sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and is being treated at a hospital in Safed; the IDF said both men will be questioned after they receive medical care.

In a separate incident on Sunday, the IDF reported that soldiers shot and killed a suspect who attempted to approach an Israeli military post in the southern Syria Security Zone. According to KAN News, the individual was observed approaching a position between the villages of Hader and Quneitra and was shot after failing to comply with IDF orders to surrender while troops sought to take him into custody.

Local Reaction

Golan Regional Council Head Uri Kelner and Katzrin Local Council Head Yehuda Dua described the incidents as "a warning sign that cannot be ignored." They urged Israeli political leaders to strengthen security measures in the Golan communities, Katzrin and the Druze villages, saying the safety of residents should not rely on a temporary sense of calm.

"Precisely at a time when there is a sense of calm, we must not be misled or revert to the mindsets that prevailed before October 7," Kelner and Dua said, calling for sustained security commitments alongside ongoing IDF operations in the region.

IDF Operations

The IDF also reported that its Carmeli Brigade discovered and destroyed several munitions dating to the Assad regime era during operations in southern Syria on Sunday. The army said the haul included three anti-tank explosive devices and two mines, and that the brigade continues efforts to clear the area of weaponry.

The incidents are being handled by military and security authorities, who will question detained suspects after they receive medical treatment. Israeli officials say the events underscore the need for continued vigilance along the Golan frontier.
