Two caregivers in Jones County, Georgia — 36-year-old Reva Ogles and 46-year-old George Togeg — were arrested after deputies say they waited two days to report the death of a 7-year-old boy in their care. They were initially charged with concealing a death and later with first-degree cruelty to children as the investigation continued. Both remain jailed without bond while authorities await autopsy results and consider additional charges. Officials urged anyone suspecting child abuse to contact the Childhelp hotline.

Two adults in Jones County, Georgia, were arrested after authorities say they waited two days to report the death of a 7-year-old boy who was in their care.

Deputies from the Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded on Thursday, Oct. 1, after receiving reports about the child. Investigators say the boy actually died on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and that caregivers Reva Ogles, 36, and George Togeg, 46, did not notify law enforcement or seek medical assistance until Oct. 1.

Ogles and Togeg were taken into custody at the scene and initially charged with one count each of concealing a death. As the investigation continued, authorities added charges of first-degree cruelty to children, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigation Status

The sheriff’s office said the probe is ongoing. "The cause and manner of the child's death remain pending the results of an autopsy, and additional charges may be added as the investigation continues and additional information becomes available," officials said in a news release.

"This is a tragic case involving the death of a child, and we ask that the child's family and loved ones be kept in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the sheriff's office said.

Inmate records viewed by PEOPLE show both Ogles and Togeg are being held at the Jones County Jail without bond while investigators await autopsy results and consider further charges. PEOPLE has contacted the Jones County Sheriff’s Office for additional comment.
