Rep. Nancy Mace bluntly told men who have messaged her that she is not interested: "My DMs are CLOSED." In a short video she posted, the South Carolina Republican addressed a recent wave of attention and explicit messages she has received, and said she has turned down multiple suitors — and might stop dating altogether.
The comments came during a Capitol Hill interview with TMZ correspondent Charlie Cotton. When asked whether she would ever date a Democrat, Mace said, "Yes, although I just turned one down." She added that after her tattoo story went viral she received many advances: "I had a lot of suitors when the tattoo story came out."
"I turned everybody down," Mace said when pressed about whether politics played a role. "I just, I don't know. I don't know that I'll ever date again. I don't know."
Cotton also asked whether men sometimes send explicit photos; Mace replied, "Sometimes, and that's nasty." She said she rejects anyone who approaches her through direct messages regardless of political affiliation.
Mace described the personal toll of life in Washington. "I know it is lonely, but I don't have any friends up here," she said, noting that she channels herself into work, is nearly 50, and that her children are grown.
The attention followed a revealing summer moment when Mace showed arm tattoos on her YouTube show Get Maced, appearing in a tank top and swimsuit. She previously said she got nine tattoos in quick succession after personal setbacks — including a breakup and the difficult decision to dismiss her entire congressional office staff — and has told TMZ she now has more than nine tattoos and plans to pursue full sleeve work.
Politically, Mace finished fifth in South Carolina's Republican primary for governor and has announced she will retire from Congress next year.
