Ex-Nancy Mace Aide Fires Back From Wyoming After Mehdi Hasan Names Her On Air Over Drinking Allegations

Natalie Johnson, who served as Rep. Nancy Mace's communications director in 2021, pushed back from Wyoming after being named on live television as the source of published allegations about Mace's drinking. Johnson, now living in Wyoming and spending time skiing and hiking, posted on X that she is "still haunting this psycho 5+ years later."

Televised Confrontation

The exchange unfolded on an episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored when commentator Mehdi Hasan pressed Mace about an AI campaign clip and cited reporting from New York Magazine that described increased drinking and staffers buying alcohol late at night to keep parties going at Mace's home.

Mehdi Hasan: "Your former comms director told New York Magazine you drank all day. Staffers bought you alcohol at 2 a.m. Take it up with her."

Nancy Mace: "I do not drink. That's disgusting. You're defaming me."

Hasan named Natalie Johnson as the source of those allegations. He also relayed claims that interns and junior staffers would fetch alcohol during the day so Mace could drink during town halls; Mace denied the allegations and called the characterization "disgusting." She described the AI clip in question as "a picture that was animated."

Context: The AI Clip And The Primary

The AI-animated video dated to Mace's Republican gubernatorial primary campaign. On May 29, she posted a clip implying a thumbs-up exchange with former President Donald Trump and said Trump had not endorsed Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette; hours later, Trump publicly endorsed Evette. CNN's Dana Bash later pressed Mace for details about the images, and Mace insisted she had real photographs with the president.

Mace lost the June 9 primary. Attorney General Alan Wilson won the nomination for the June 23 runoff with 68.6% of the vote.

Past Public Comments From Johnson

Johnson has previously criticized her former boss. In December 2024 she wrote on X that during the January 6 Capitol riot Mace told staff, including Johnson, she wanted to be punched by a rioter so she could appear on television.
