The family of 22-year-old Esube “Izzy” Wondwossen, a senior at Howard University, is urgently asking the public for help after she disappeared during her normal morning commute on Sept. 15.
Izzy was last seen when her father dropped her off at the Branch Avenue Metro Station in Prince George's County at about 7:00 a.m. He said she appeared cheerful and in good spirits. She never arrived at Howard University.
Surveillance and witness information later placed Wondwossen leaving the Pentagon Metro Station in Arlington, Virginia. A separate sighting reported to authorities indicates she was seen getting off a Metro bus near Reading Avenue and Beauregard Street in Alexandria at about 8:25 a.m. Her family says they have no explanation for why she would have been in Alexandria that morning.
The family’s concern deepened when Wondwossen’s mother, Aida Endrias, discovered that location tracking on Izzy’s phone appeared to have been turned off. Izzy’s sister, Helina Wondwossen, said the family is asking for more public attention and tips to help locate her sister. “She wouldn’t just spend the night somewhere without telling us,” Helina told reporters. “I just want to know she’s safe.”
Prince George’s County police describe Esube “Izzy” Wondwossen as a Black woman, approximately 5 ft. 1 in. tall and 110 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes and a distinctive mole above her left eyebrow.
She was last seen wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, a headband and Crocs, and carrying a Michael Kors tote bag.
