Macklemore’s $1M Pledge Redirects Spotlight and Aid to Palestinian Relief Groups

New York — Rapper Macklemore pledged $1 million — his net earnings from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour — to six Palestinian relief organizations after being removed from a MetLife Stadium lineup following pro-Palestinian remarks. Beneficiaries include Medical Aid for Palestinians, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), UNRWA and Anera. Leaders of the recipient groups say the funds and renewed public attention are urgently needed amid ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza and the West Bank.

Beyond immediate funding, nonprofit leaders emphasized that the visibility from Macklemore’s pledge can drive sustained support and awareness. "Even if you don't see bombs falling every night, the rubble is still there," said Alicia Phillips Mandaville, acting CEO of Anera. "And the traumatized children are still traumatized."

"My phone rings all the time with calls from people in Gaza bleeding and asking for help," said Tareq Hailat, director of strategic engagement at PCRF. "There’s this notion that there's a ceasefire. But it's not true. There are children dying every single day."

How The Money Will Be Used

PCRF plans to place its share of the donation into an unrestricted fund so it can respond quickly as needs shift, including medical evacuations, bringing in outside physicians and treating patients inside Gaza. Anera noted it also received unrestricted support, allowing it to address immediate needs such as emergency food, blankets, shelter repairs and flood relief when conditions demand.

The donation joins earlier contributions from Macklemore: proceeds and streaming royalties from his protest songs "Hind's Hall" and "Hind's Hall 2" have generated more than $509,000 for UNRWA, according to UNRWA USA CEO Mara Kronenfeld.

Broader Impact And Follow-On Gifts

The pledge has already catalyzed additional donations: YouTube educator Ms. Rachel announced a $1 million gift to PCRF and urged others to match her contribution. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said he would match Ed Sheeran’s $2 million donation for aid "in the region," though recipients were not specified. Grassroots and influencer campaigns have also raised tens of thousands of dollars for relief groups, and charities reported significant spikes in small online donations and social media followers after Macklemore’s post.

Context And Controversy

Macklemore says he made the pledge after being dropped from the MetLife concert bill; he has asserted his criticism of the Israeli government should not be conflated with antisemitism. Kraft said the cancellation was related to Macklemore’s recent remarks and a broader history of what Kraft characterized as antisemitic rhetoric and imagery. The debate around the removal sparked a 48-hour period in which several supporting acts withdrew and public attention surged.
