Court rulings have prevented President Donald Trump from adding his name to the Kennedy Center’s official designation. In response, the White House has publicly criticized the institution, threatened to withhold funding for repairs and suggested more drastic steps to alter or close the center.

Among recent appointees is Dr. Dana Blumberg, who was appointed to the Kennedy Center board in February 2025 and is married to Robert Kraft. The vote was not taken by roll call, a move that avoided a public record of individual members’ positions; nevertheless, reports indicate only three Democrats opposed the action.

Separate Controversy With Macklemore And Donations
Kraft’s heightened media profile comes while he is also involved in a separate dispute with musician Macklemore. The controversy began after Macklemore said “Free Palestine” during an appearance, prompting debate over his continued involvement in Ed Sheeran’s upcoming tour stop at Gillette Stadium. Kraft objected to Macklemore’s presence on the bill; as a result, Macklemore and some supporting musicians withdrew from the performances.

In the aftermath, Macklemore announced a $1 million donation to relief efforts in Palestine and publicly challenged Kraft to match it. Kraft subsequently made a $2 million donation to relief efforts in the region, and has said Ed Sheeran asked him to contribute.
