Phebe (@hi_im_phebe) posted a viral TikTok claiming Planet Fitness continued charging her after she canceled, including a $42.11 charge and later withdrawals under the merchant name "ABC Planet Fitness." She says the chain refunded $111 and $54 after her post gained traction. Commenters reported similar billing problems, and a March 2026 report says Planet Fitness accepts cancellations only in person at the home club or via USPS Certified Mail. Critics are calling for clearer, more reliable cancellation and billing practices.

A viral TikTok from user Phebe (@hi_im_phebe) has renewed scrutiny of Planet Fitness's billing and cancellation practices after she says the chain continued charging her following a membership cancellation. In a July video that has since gained wide attention, Phebe described a sequence of charges and the steps she took to stop them.

What Happened

Phebe says she canceled her Planet Fitness membership but was subsequently told she still owed $42.11, which she paid. A week later she noticed another charge. After contacting her bank and asking them to decline further transactions from Planet Fitness, another withdrawal still posted to her account.

When she followed up with her bank, staff allegedly told her Planet Fitness had processed the payment under a different merchant name — "ABC Planet Fitness" — which she says allowed the company to debit her account again despite the cancellation and her request to block payments.

Response And Refund

In a later update, Phebe said Planet Fitness reached out and attempted to resolve the dispute. Although her initial customer-service interactions were unsatisfactory, she reports receiving a refund of $111 and an additional $54 — an amount she notes equals roughly six months of membership fees.

"So thank you so much for spamming them in the comments," she said in the video. "If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have had a beautiful sushi dinner with my sister yesterday on them."

Context And Broader Concerns

Commenters on Phebe's post said her experience was not unique. Some described filing fraud claims, closing cards, and still receiving attempted charges, while others shared tips for cancelling gym memberships. A March 2026 article from Resubs reports that Planet Fitness does not accept cancellations by phone, email, in-app chat, its app, or online; members reportedly must either submit a cancellation form in person at their home club or mail a cancellation letter via USPS Certified Mail.

Those two cancellation routes are time-consuming and, as Phebe's case suggests, may not reliably stop billing. With multiple customer complaints and some lawsuits over cancellation and billing practices, critics say Planet Fitness should clarify and improve its cancellation procedures and merchant naming practices.

Practical Tips For Members

  • Get Any Cancellation In Writing — Keep A Receipt Or Confirmation.
  • Monitor Bank Statements For Unexpected Merchant Names.
  • If Problems Persist, File A Dispute With Your Bank And Consider Certified Mail For Written Notices.
  • Take Screenshots And Save All Correspondence With The Gym And Your Bank.

All claims in this report reflect the account provided by the TikTok user and corroborating public complaints; Planet Fitness did provide refunds in this instance, according to Phebe's updates.
