Gracie Johnson (@graciejohnsn), a solo traveler conducting a property inspection, says she felt unsafe after several men repeatedly followed and harassed her while staying at a Best Western in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. She described the experience in a TikTok video and ultimately decided to check out early.
What Happened
Johnson arrived at the hotel, picked up dinner, and returned to find a group of men — whom she believed were construction workers — staying on the property. As she entered the elevator, four or five men rushed in behind her. She later discovered two of them were staying in the room adjacent to hers.
About ten minutes after returning to her room, Johnson heard knocking at her door. She looked through the doorway and saw two men standing outside; not wanting to engage, she stayed quiet and ignored them. The knocking stopped, but resumed later that night. Through her peephole she saw one of the men from the neighboring room, and someone began tapping on the wall that separated the rooms.
"But ladies, listen to your intuition. Because even though I had a completely normal, just like, small-talk conversation with them, my stomach dropped," Johnson said in the video.
Hotel Response
Frightened by the behavior, Johnson called the front desk to report the incidents. The staff responded, offered to move her, and relocated her to a first-floor room. She was able to sleep and worked the next day from her laptop.
When Johnson returned to the hotel later that afternoon, staff showed her security footage of a man pacing back and forth in front of her original room and repeatedly looking through the peephole for nearly three hours. Johnson said the hotel provided a screenshot of the man so she could avoid him on the property. She also recognized one of the men from the elevator in that image. According to the hotel, they contacted the man’s employer and said the man was terminated.
Aftermath
Despite the staff’s prompt and apologetic response, Johnson said she spotted the same man lingering in the parking lot while leaving for dinner. She decided to "cut her losses," check out, and return to Nashville for safety. Johnson later left a positive review praising the front desk employee’s handling of the situation.
