The ambassadors of Israel and Lebanon will meet next week at the U.S. State Department in Washington instead of Rome, a State Department official said on Friday. The session is part of ongoing efforts to implement a trilateral framework involving the United States, Lebanon and Israel that aims to reduce border tensions and rebuild Lebanese state authority in the south.
Focus Of The Meeting
The official said the meeting will address "ongoing developments and the continued implementation of the trilateral framework, which remains the only practical mechanism for restoring Lebanon's sovereignty and ensuring Israel's security." The next formal round of talks between the parties is expected to take place in Rome in October.

The first round of discussions began in Rome on August 4 and was described by a source to The Jerusalem Post as "positive." Both Israeli and Lebanese military personnel attended those talks, which were convened to advance practical, technical steps agreed under the trilateral framework.
U.S. Goals And Remarks
U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said on X (formerly Twitter) that the process "brings together technical teams from both governments to advance full implementation of the Trilateral Framework, including the pilot zone process, verified disarmament of Hezbollah and other Iran-backed security threats, redeployment of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and laying the ground for a comprehensive peace and security agreement."
"The United States remains fully committed to supporting both governments as they carry this process forward in a manner that delivers lasting security for both countries, eliminates security threats to Israel, and restores Lebanese state authority throughout the south," Pigott said.
