A 40-year-old teacher was shot in the parking lot of a school in Hura, northeast of Beersheba, on Thursday morning. Students were in the vicinity at the time, and no students were reported injured.
Magen David Adom paramedics arrived quickly, provided emergency care at the scene and evacuated the victim to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. MDA reported that the teacher was hospitalized in moderate condition.
At the time of publication, the shooter’s identity and motive remained unknown and authorities were investigating the incident.

The school temporarily suspended classes following the shooting and issued a strong statement condemning the violence. The statement said the episode was "an extremely serious incident and a crossing of a clear red line," and reiterated that the school must remain "a protected and safe space."
"Harming a teacher or any staff member is an attack on the heart of the educational system, and we will not tolerate it. Violence is not a way to resolve disputes, is not legitimate under any circumstances, and will not be part of the agenda."
The National Parents' Leadership organization also denounced the shooting, calling it an attempted murder and urging decisive action to prevent such events from recurring. The organization emphasized that schools should not be arenas for settling scores and called on authorities to ensure the safety of students and staff.
"This must be put to an end. We support the teacher, his family, and the school staff and expect all responsible parties to act decisively to ensure that students and educators can get to and from school safely."
