The FDA's August 8, 2026 report expands details on Taylor Farms' July lettuce recall, citing "Potential Cyclospora contamination" and estimating 236,192 affected cases of iceberg and romaine. Walmart's Marketside reportedly received 109,476 cases; Subway, Jack in the Box and Yum! Brands (Taco Bell named so far) are also listed. The recalled produce was traced to Mexico and distributed across 27 U.S. states. Consumer groups criticized Taylor Farms for using unclear account abbreviations.

A new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) report published Saturday, August 8, 2026, provides fuller details about the July 2026 lettuce recall initiated by Taylor Farms. The agency identifies "Potential Cyclospora contamination" as the reason for the action and estimates the recall affects 236,192 cases of iceberg and romaine lettuce.

What The Report Says

The FDA's notice indicates some affected lettuce was sold as standalone iceberg or romaine products and that some was reportedly blended with other produce items, including carrots and red cabbage. The agency traced the recalled produce to Mexico and to distribution across multiple U.S. states.

Accounts And Quantities Named

  • Marketside (Walmart): Reportedly received 109,476 cases labeled as "iceberg salad" and "shredded lett" (likely shorthand for "shredded lettuce").
  • Subway: Pulled 8,075 cases described as "shred lettuce," with some products listed as "iceberg only."
  • Jack in the Box: Removed 5,130 cases of iceberg lettuce.
  • Yum! Brands: Listed for 5,900 cases overall; of its restaurant chains, Taco Bell is the only location named so far in the FDA report.
  • Other commercial accounts cited include Cross Valley Farms (noted via LinkedIn as part of US Foods), Peak Lettuce Salad, Markon, and Sysco (described by Yahoo! Finance as the largest U.S. foodservice distributor).

Geographic Distribution

The FDA says the recalled product originated from Mexico and was distributed to the following U.S. states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin (27 states total).

Industry Reaction And Consumer Concerns

On July 21, the Consumer Federation of America criticized Taylor Farms for previously publishing account names in abbreviated form (for example, "CV" for Cross Valley Farms and "MKTSD" for Walmart's Marketside), which the group said could be unclear or confusing for consumers trying to identify affected products.

Consumers who believe they may have purchased affected lettuce should check retailer notices and the FDA's recall announcement for lot numbers and product descriptions, and consult a health professional if they experience symptoms consistent with Cyclospora infection (such as prolonged diarrhea).
