The FDA ended a Class I peach recall on July 31 after required corrective actions were completed at a Fresno County packing facility tied to a possible Listeria concern. About 10 million pounds of peaches — 11 varieties across 33 lots — were included; shipments went to 39 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico. Major retailers were affected. Officials emphasize strong sanitation, vigilant facility monitoring and continued funding for pathogen surveillance to protect public health and reduce food waste.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on July 31 formally ended a large peach recall after monitoring required corrective actions at a Fresno County packing facility tied to a possible Listeria monocytogenes concern in the packing environment.

What Was Recalled

About 10 million pounds of peaches — spanning 11 varieties and 33 lots — distributed to 39 U.S. states and shipped to Canada and Mexico were included in the recall. The affected fruit, sold under Moonlight and Kroger labels, included yellow peaches, white peaches and "peppermint" white peaches and was available both as single items and in multi-fruit packs.

Source And Classification

Regulators traced the affected fruit to Moonlight Packaging Corporation in Fresno County, California. The recall was designated Class I, the FDA’s highest-risk category, because of the potential hazard posed by Listeria monocytogenes.

Response Steps

The FDA ended the recall after Moonlight and partners completed corrective actions that the agency reviewed and accepted. Key steps in the response included product tracing (labels, packaging details and UPC codes), sanitation and facility monitoring improvements, and verification that corrective measures were implemented.

Consumer Guidance

Customers who bought peaches recently should check package labels and UPCs against recall notices. If you believe you have affected fruit, follow retailer instructions for returns or disposal. People who are pregnant, elderly, very young, or immunocompromised should be especially cautious and consult a healthcare provider if they suspect exposure. For details or to report concerns, contact the retailer or visit the FDA recall page.

Why This Matters

Listeria monocytogenes can survive refrigerated conditions and often causes no visible changes to contaminated produce, which is why strong sanitation, ongoing facility monitoring and robust product-tracing systems are essential. Officials note that sustained funding for pathogen surveillance and response programs helps protect public health and can reduce avoidable food waste.

Retailers That Carried Affected Fruit: Kroger, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Costco, Target, Sprouts, Food Lion and Wegmans.
