A woman identified as Emily Fair is accused of stealing a Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, fire department pickup truck in the early hours of Aug. 4 and using the vehicle’s mobile radio to broadcast an unusual request: "I'm hungry. You got food in there?" Authorities and bodycam footage released by the Pleasant Prairie Police Department detail the bizarre incident.
According to court documents and local reporting by WISN, the incident began at about 1 a.m. when an uninvited person entered Pleasant Prairie Fire Station 3 on Terwall Terrace and climbed into a department pickup. The truck’s emergency lights were turned on and the vehicle was driven away.
Shortly after the pickup left the station, dispatchers began receiving curious radio transmissions from the truck’s onboard equipment. One transmission, later attributed to the suspect, included the question, "I'm hungry. You got food in there?" Court records say the transmissions sowed confusion at the scene.
Bodycam footage shows officers spent about an hour locating the pickup. At approximately 1:55 a.m., police found the vehicle and ordered the driver to park. When a responding officer opened the driver’s door, the woman—naked at the time—answered "Yeah" when asked if she was a firefighter and again when asked whether she was supposed to be driving the vehicle.
When officers questioned her lack of clothing, she reportedly said she had been "supposed to be meeting someone." An officer located a dress in the truck bed, handed it to her so she could dress, and then took her into custody. Patrol-car video shows the woman smiling after she was clothed.
Emily Fair has been charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000. A competency hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26 to determine whether she has the mental capacity to understand the charges and participate in court proceedings.
The incident remains under investigation. Local reporting and court filings cited by WISN are the principal sources for the publicly available details.
