At least 13 people were killed and 39 injured after a large drone raid on Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, which officials said struck industrial and civilian sites and prompted a regional mourning period. Russian authorities blamed Western support for Kyiv, while Ukraine said it targeted the Tanevo oil refinery using FP-1 strike drones. Moscow claimed the operation was part of a wider offensive involving hundreds of drones and said air defenses intercepted hundreds of them. Separately, Russian strikes in eastern Ukraine killed at least nine civilians, including five in Kharkiv province, and prosecutors have opened probes into possible war crimes.

At least 13 people were killed and 39 injured overnight after what Russian officials described as a "massive" Ukrainian drone raid on Nizhnekamsk in the Republic of Tatarstan, roughly 600 miles east of Moscow. Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov said the strikes hit both industrial and civilian sites and declared a period of mourning for the victims.

A child was among the dead, the Russian Investigative Committee told TASS. Moscow's foreign ministry and other officials blamed Western support for Kyiv, saying the operation could not have been carried out without weapons supplied by Western countries.

The Russian Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik described the Nizhnekamsk strike as a "war crime" by Ukrainian forces and reiterated that Moscow holds Western arms suppliers responsible for civilian casualties. In a separate update, regional officials said additional attacks on other Russian regions left several more dead.

Ukraine's version: The Armed Forces of Ukraine said the Nizhnekamsk operation targeted the Tanevo oil refinery and that long-range FP-1 strike drones, reportedly produced by the Ukrainian firm Fire Point, were used.

Russian Defense Ministry: The ministry described the incident as part of a broader airborne offensive it said targeted 16 Russian regions plus annexed Crimea, and asserted that air defenses intercepted 456 Ukrainian drones.

Meanwhile, Russian strikes inside Ukraine continued. In Kharkiv province, five people were killed when heavy artillery hit homes in the village of Bugaivka near the front line in Chuhuiv district; prosecutors opened a pre-trial probe into the incident as a possible war crime. Russian attacks across eastern Ukraine also reportedly killed at least nine people in total and wounded dozens more in regions including Kharkiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Donetsk.

Notes on reporting: Casualty and damage figures come from official Russian and Ukrainian statements and regional prosecutors. Independent verification of all claims was not immediately available, and reported numbers vary between sources.
