Tourist Knocked Down by European Bison in Poland's Bialowieza Forest After Approaching Animal
Bison teaches tourist a painful lesson.

Footage from Poland's Bialowieza Forest shows a tourist knocked down by a European bison after he approached the animal. The video, filmed by Grzegorz Rynski and credited to TVP World, is available on Facebook. Other visitors rescued the man once a passing vehicle distracted the bison; he was not seriously injured. The clip recalls a more severe bison incident recently filmed in Yellowstone.

Incident Details

According to TVP World, the tourist moved toward the bison, prompting the animal to react. The bison knocked him down as he attempted to stand following an earlier fall. Other visitors were able to pull the man to safety after a passing vehicle distracted the animal.

Unlike a more severe incident last month in Yellowstone National Park — where a bison chased a tourist and launched him airborne, leaving the visitor with a broken femur and a later hip replacement — the man in Poland was not seriously injured.

Context and Safety Reminder

The Bialowieza Forest, which stretches across parts of Poland and Belarus, is home to roughly 900 free-roaming European bison. These are large wild animals and can be unpredictable; authorities and park managers advise keeping a safe distance and never intentionally approaching or disturbing wildlife.
