Beau Brattain, 9, was mauled by a pack of dogs on a Bimini beach on July 28 and suffered roughly 100 bite wounds. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and has undergone three surgeries. On August 4, the dogs' owner, Harrington Vincent Rolle, 34, was sentenced to one year in jail and the animals were ordered euthanized. Beau's parents have launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical costs as he continues to recover.

A nine-year-old Florida boy, Beau Brattain, was severely mauled by a pack of dogs while playing on a beach in North Bimini, Bahamas, on July 28. Local reports indicate he suffered roughly 100 bite wounds and life-threatening injuries.

The U.S. Coast Guard airlifted Beau to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for emergency care. He has undergone three surgeries so far as medical teams treat extensive wounds, including partial scalp loss, according to his mother, Aliette Trelles.

"I looked at his head and I noticed that like this much of his scalp was missing completely... that was when I really started to freak out," Trelles told NBC 6. "Our son is alive because of every single person that has helped us up until this point."

On August 4, Acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans sentenced 34-year-old Harrington Vincent Rolle — identified as the owner of six dogs involved in the incident — to one year in jail. The court also ordered the animals to be euthanized. "It's a sad case," the judge said. "The child in question could have died. Fortunately, his life was spared."

The family said Beau had been collecting sand for hermit crabs the morning of the attack after spending the previous night catching the crabs. Beau's parents have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover mounting medical costs.

Status and Community Response: Beau remains under medical care and is recovering after multiple surgeries. The case has prompted renewed calls for stronger animal-control measures and public-safety enforcement in the island community.
