Police Footage Shows Woman Arrested After DUI That Killed Newlywed; Demanded To Call Her Father

Newly released police video captures 27-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski arguing with officers and repeatedly demanding to call her father after a DUI crash in Folly Beach, South Carolina, that killed a new bride and seriously injured others.
Crash Details
On April 28, 2023, Komoroski left several bars on Folly Beach and drove her car into a golf cart carrying a newlywed couple and two wedding guests as they were leaving their reception. Authorities say she was traveling roughly 40 miles per hour over the posted limit when she struck the cart. Samantha Hutchinson, 34, was killed in the collision. Her husband, Aric Hutchinson, 36, and two guests suffered serious injuries.
Arrest Footage
Footage obtained by WCSC shows Komoroski seated at a police station with her hands cuffed behind her back. In the video she repeatedly insists she be allowed to call her father and challenges officers about the basis for her detention. At one point she speaks to a security camera in a mocking tone, questioning why she cannot contact family and asserting the officers had no proof of wrongdoing.
'I just want to like, get it over with and go home. I can't call my dad?' she says in the recording. 'What did I do? Nobody has any proof of anything I did. So give me the right to call my dad.'
Authorities later tested Komoroski's blood and reported a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.261 percent—more than three times South Carolina's legal limit for driving. The high BAC, combined with the reported speed, formed the basis of the charges against her.
Legal Outcome And Civil Action
Komoroski pleaded guilty to felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death, and reckless homicide. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The victim's husband, Aric Hutchinson, also filed a wrongful death lawsuit that named Komoroski and the establishments that served her alcohol the night of the crash.
