Ukrop has recalled multiple ready-made meals after metal slivers were discovered in a baking pan used during production. The recall affects baked spaghetti, chicken cobbler and bread pudding with best-by dates from July 6 to Aug. 5, 2026. FSIS traced the contamination to pans from an external supplier; affected items have been removed from stores in NC, VA, WV and KY. Consumers should not eat these products and should return them for a full refund; no injuries have been reported.

Ukrop Voluntarily Recalls Several Ready-Made Meals After Metal Slivers Found

Food manufacturer Ukrop has voluntarily recalled multiple ready-made meals after inspectors discovered small metal slivers in a baking pan used during production, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported on July 30.

What Happened

During a routine inspection, the FDA learned that "a small sliver of aluminum was discovered in the baking pan used to prepare six of its products." A similar metal fragment was subsequently identified in a Chicken Cobbler product. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) traced the fragments back to baking pans supplied by an external vendor.

Products Affected

The recall covers Ukrop prepared meals with "best by" dates from July 6 through August 5, 2026. Affected product types include baked spaghetti, chicken cobbler and bread pudding. These items were sold at grocery chains such as Publix, Kroger, Food Lion, Libbie Mart and others in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky.

What Consumers Should Do

The FDA and FSIS advise consumers not to eat the recalled products. If you have any of the listed items, return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard them safely. Because some products may remain in household freezers or refrigerators, FSIS urges consumers to double-check their homes and take action.

Ukrop has informed retailers and said the baking-pan supplier was notified and has taken steps to remove potentially affected pans from distribution. Ukrop also stated that no injuries have been reported and that it is prioritizing consumer safety.

Company Background and Previous Recalls

Established in 1937, Ukrop manufactures a variety of prepared foods — including hors d'oeuvres, desserts, sides, salads and beverages — and primarily distributes to grocery stores across the Mid-Atlantic region. This recall follows previous voluntary actions: in December 2025 Ukrop recalled certain pound cakes for an undeclared soy allergen, and in 2021 the company recalled items after plastic fragments were found.
