Publix has expanded a recall to include all lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Mixed Berries (10oz and 48oz) sold in eight Southern states over possible E. coli O145 contamination. The FDA reports 12 confirmed related illnesses; the expansion follows an earlier single-lot recall by the Chilean supplier. Consumers should not eat the products and may discard them or return them to Publix for a full refund. Seek medical care for severe or bloody diarrhea, especially for vulnerable individuals.
Urgent: Publix Expands Recall of GreenWise Frozen Berries Over Possible E. coli O145 Contamination

Publix has expanded a recall of GreenWise frozen berry products after traceback and public-health data indicated a potential link to E. coli O145. Shoppers in eight Southern states should check their freezers and discard or return affected items for a full refund.
What’s Recalled
The recall now covers all lots of the following GreenWise Organic products:
- GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries — 10-ounce and 48-ounce packages
- GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries — 10-ounce and 48-ounce packages
Where The Products Were Sold
Publix reported the items were distributed to stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Publix initiated an internal stop sale at the end of June 2026 and says the products remain unavailable for purchase.
Why The Recall Was Expanded
The expanded recall follows an earlier single-lot recall announced July 3 by supplier Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. in San Carlos, Chile. Publix said it is recalling "all lots" out of an abundance of caution based on traceback work and epidemiological information from public health officials.
Public Health Report
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported there have been 12 confirmed cases of illness linked to E. coli O145 infections in consumers, which contributed to the decision to expand the recall.
Health Risks and Symptoms
E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing strain. Infections can cause severe stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea that may be bloody. While many otherwise healthy people recover within a week, young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of complications, including hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure.
What Consumers Should Do
- Do not eat the recalled products.
- Dispose of the items safely or return them to any Publix store for a full refund; keep receipts if available.
- Check Publix communications or the FDA website for lists of product codes and additional details.
- If you or a household member ate the berries and develop severe cramping, persistent vomiting, diarrhea (especially bloody), or other concerning symptoms, contact a health care provider immediately.
Because frozen fruit is often stored for weeks or months, recalled packages can remain in home freezers long after purchase—so consumers should check now. Families with small children, older relatives or immunocompromised household members should be especially cautious.
