Alexandra Walker and her partner Harrison Simpson have been jailed for life after a court found they inflicted prolonged violence and sexual abuse on two-year-old Isabelle Welsh, who died from catastrophic head injuries on 13 September 2025. Simpson was convicted of murder, child cruelty and sexual abuse and must serve a minimum of 28½ years; Walker was convicted of murder and child cruelty and was given a minimum term of 22 years. The judge said the pair were "equally and jointly responsible" and criticised their "wall of silence, lies and obfuscation" over the final weeks of the child's life.

A mother and her new partner have been sentenced to life imprisonment after a court found they carried out prolonged and "sadistic" abuse that led to the death of the mother's two-year-old daughter, Isabelle Welsh.

Court Verdict

At Teesside Crown Court, jurors were told that Isabelle had been a "happy and thriving" toddler until her mother, Alexandra Walker, invited 22-year-old Harrison Simpson into their home in Thornaby, Stockton, in June 2025. Both Walker (26) and Simpson (22) were convicted of murder and child cruelty; Simpson was also found guilty of sexual abuse of a child.

Details of the Abuse and Fatal Injuries

The judge concluded Isabelle was the victim of a sustained campaign of violent and sexual abuse by the adults who should have protected her. Medical evidence presented at trial concluded that on the morning of 13 September 2025 Isabelle suffered catastrophic head trauma—either striking her head on a hard surface while being violently shaken, or being swung or flung by the legs into a wall or piece of furniture. The impact caused an immediate fractured skull and an "unsurvivable" brain injury; her condition deteriorated instantly and obviously.

Ms Justice Norton said the defendants had erected a "wall of silence, lies and obfuscation" about the final weeks of Isabelle's life and described them as "equally and jointly responsible" for her murder and the cruelty she endured.

Sentencing

Simpson was told to serve a minimum of 28½ years, while Walker received a minimum term of 22 years. The court criticised the delayed call for emergency help: Walker did not dial 999 until hours after Isabelle sustained the fatal injuries.

Context and Impact

The case prompted strong remarks from the bench about the scale and nature of the abuse and the responsibility of adults to protect vulnerable children. The judge's description underlined both the severity of the crimes and the perceived attempts to conceal what happened in the weeks before Isabelle's death.
