Husband Found Dead Beside Murdered Wife Had Earlier Faced Assault Charge

Police in Renfrewshire are investigating after the bodies of a married couple were found near Corsliehill Road in Houston. Jim Mair, 43, was discovered dead on Monday alongside his wife, 35-year-old Stacy Mair; Police Scotland said Stacy's death is being treated as a murder while Jim Mair's death is recorded as unexplained pending a post-mortem.
The Crown Office confirmed that Jim Mair had appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on 6 July charged with assaulting his wife. Court records show the case was continued for further examination and he was granted bail; his subsequent death means any outstanding proceedings have now ended.
Local reporting indicated the bail terms were said to include a condition preventing him from approaching his wife, though that detail has not been officially confirmed by prosecutors. The couple, married in 2019, ran a tree removal business called TRS Tree Management. Stacy Mair, originally from Falkland in Fife, had been a director of the firm until she resigned from the role in January.
Police Scotland said there is currently no indication that a third party was involved in either death, but inquiries remain ongoing while specialist officers support the families.
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young of the major investigation team said: 'Our thoughts remain with the families of those affected by this incident. They are understandably devastated and we are providing them with support through specialist officers at this incredibly difficult time.'
Local and national investigative teams continue to probe the circumstances surrounding both deaths; Police Scotland has asked anyone with information to contact their major investigation team.
