Stealthier, Faster, Deadlier: Iran Reveals Upgraded Hadid 110 Jet-Powered Suicide Drone

Stealthier, Faster, Deadlier: Iran Reveals Upgraded Hadid 110 Jet-Powered Suicide Drone
The drone is an advanced version of Iran's standard Hadid 110

The IRGC has introduced a jet-powered upgrade of the Hadid 110 suicide drone, which Iranian sources claim reaches about 316 mph, carries a roughly 30 kg warhead and can travel about 220 miles with roughly one hour endurance. Launched from a solid-fuel booster, the drone is designed to reduce radar signature and compress defenders' reaction time. Iran says it is domestically produced and reports that the system has been used recently against US bases and warships, though some technical and operational claims remain unverified.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has unveiled an upgraded Hadid 110 suicide drone that its makers say is faster, harder to detect and optimized to slip past modern air-defence systems.

The jet-powered variant replaces the slower propeller-driven designs common in Iran's arsenal. Iranian sources claim the turbojet can push the drone to roughly 316 mph (about 500 km/h). It is reportedly launched from a solid-fuel booster that rapidly accelerates and lifts the drone before the jet engine sustains flight.

Design and Capabilities

The Hadid 110 is described by Iranian officials as having a smooth, boltless airframe and an S-shaped intake mounted on top of the fuselage to conceal the engine's fan blades. Its exterior is said to use radar-absorbing materials to lower its radar signature.

According to IRGC estimates, the drone carries a warhead of about 30 kg, has an estimated strike range around 220 miles (roughly 350 km) and can remain airborne for about an hour. Those characteristics make it a tactical weapon capable of striking targets within the region rather than a long-range strategic missile.

Operational Context and Claims

IRGC statements say the upgraded Hadid 110 was deployed recently and has been fired toward US bases and naval vessels in the region. Independent verification of those specific operational claims is limited.

Tehran asserts the system is produced entirely domestically. That claim is politically important for Iran but difficult to verify; external assistance or components from other countries cannot be ruled out given historical patterns of cooperation.

Why This Matters

Faster, lower-flying, and lower-signature weapons compress defenders' reaction times and complicate the detect-track-intercept sequence used by surface-to-air systems. If the performance claims are accurate, the Hadid 110 could present a more challenging target for current interceptor missiles and air-defence radars in the region.

Beyond battlefield effects, advances in drone and missile technology have strengthened the IRGC's influence within Iran's security establishment by concentrating key strike capabilities under its command. The debut of the upgraded Hadid 110 therefore carries both tactical and internal political significance.

Note: Many technical and operational details are based on Iranian official statements and reporting; independent confirmation of speed, range, production provenance and combat use is limited.
