Iranian state media and Al Jazeera reported that Iran shot down a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.

IRIB said the strike, attributed by Al Jazeera to the IRGC, would be the third US drone reportedly downed by Iran that day if confirmed.

No independent confirmation or official US response had been reported; the situation remains developing.

Iran's state broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), said on Tuesday that the country's air defences had shot down a US military MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, Qatari outlet Al Jazeera reported that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had carried out the strike, identifying the downed aircraft as a US MQ-1. IRIB added that, if confirmed, the incident would mark the third US drone Tehran had shot down that day.

There is currently no independent confirmation of the reports. US authorities have not issued a public statement in the dispatches cited by state media and regional outlets.

Context: The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital waterway through which a significant share of the world’s oil shipments pass. Incidents involving military aircraft or drones in the area can heighten regional tensions and prompt international concern.

This is a developing story and details may change as more information becomes available.
