Trump Blasts Senate GOP, Urges End to Filibuster: "Stupidity Always Brings LOSING & DEATH"

President Donald Trump publicly urged Senate Republicans, including Majority Leader John Thune, to remain in Washington until the SAVE America Act is passed and called for ending the filibuster to fast‑track GOP priorities. Trump warned that "stupidity always brings LOSING & DEATH" and argued the party that abolishes the filibuster first will prevail. Thune says he lacks the votes, while White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says the president's "patience is running out" and defended voter‑ID measures.

President Donald Trump publicly scolded Senate Republican leaders on Monday, pressing Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) to keep senators in Washington until the SAVE America Act is passed and urging that the filibuster be abolished to fast‑track the GOP agenda.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump addressed Thune directly and demanded the Senate not "leave town" until the legislation is enacted. He argued that ending the filibuster would allow Republicans to quickly approve a broad slate of priorities — including a strengthened SAVE America Act, the federal budget and measures to head off what he described as an impending debt‑ceiling crisis he compared to 1929.

"The Dumocrats will do it on day one, and can't believe how lucky they got with this Senate leadership. Remember, stupidity always brings LOSING & DEATH!" — President Donald J. Trump

Minutes later, Trump posted a follow‑up message: "Whichever Party Terminates the Filibuster FIRST will be the Party that survives and thrives. If the Dumocrats win this race, however, America will rapidly become nothing more than a Third World Nation!" The spelling "Dumocrats" reflects Trump's intentional derisive phrasing.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has said he does not believe he has the votes to pass the SAVE America Act and has resisted calls to eliminate the filibuster to move the bill forward. Speaking to reporters after the White House comments, Thune suggested party officials should be working to secure the necessary support: "Well maybe [Leavitt] or somebody else ought to get on the phone and get the votes, right?"

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters last week that the president's "patience is running out" and that Trump wants "as much of the SAVE America Act passed as possible by the August recess." Leavitt emphasized that Trump believes voter‑ID provisions are "common sense" and said he received strong applause for the idea while speaking on the campaign trail.
