A 70-year-old physician using the name Richard Graydon has been identified as Ronald Fischer, a fugitive who fled a 2005 rape trial in Rhode Island, Stat News reports. Fischer allegedly rebuilt a biotech career under aliases while owning yachts and holding senior medical roles. U.S. Marshals arrested him in March 2026 aboard his 56-foot yacht, The Silver Lining, on New York's East River. Investigators are now determining how he evaded detection for more than two decades.

A 70-year-old physician who used the alias Richard Graydon while holding senior roles in the biotech industry has been identified as Ronald Fischer, a fugitive who disappeared during a 2005 rape trial in Rhode Island, according to reporting by Stat News.

Fischer, an anesthesiologist by training, allegedly assaulted multiple women on his yachts and vanished before his 2005 trial concluded. In a 2005 email to his lawyer cited by investigators, Fischer wrote that he believed his trial had "gone very well" but feared a small chance of conviction carried "extremely and unacceptably harsh penalties," and said he planned to leave the U.S. for a life he had been "carefully planning."

Rather than staying permanently abroad, Fischer is reported to have rebuilt a medical career in the United States under several names while continuing to own yachts. Over the years he held senior medical roles at several biotech companies, including an interim chief medical officer post at Atossa Therapeutics in 2022.

After Immix Biopharma hired him as chief medical officer in March 2026, U.S. Marshals arrested him aboard his 56-foot yacht, The Silver Lining, as it traveled down New York City's East River. Authorities say investigators are still piecing together how he avoided detection for more than two decades and how he secured executive positions under assumed identities.

What Comes Next

Fischer faces the outstanding charges from Rhode Island. Prosecutors and law enforcement agencies are expected to coordinate on next steps, including potential extradition and renewed court proceedings. For now, investigators have emphasized that the arrest removes an alleged danger from both the biotech community and the public.
