What Happened: Tulsa-area hairstylist and TikTok influencer Sara Gilson (Sara Duffey) was shot dead in her Owasso home; her estranged husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, 48, later died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Context: Gilson had obtained an emergency protective order against Duffey weeks earlier. Allegations of inappropriate contact with minors were reported but not proven in court prior to his death.

Aftermath: Gilson’s son witnessed the shooting but was not harmed; police say there is no ongoing public threat and the investigation remains active.

Police say Tulsa-area hairstylist and social media seller Sara Gilson (also known as Sara Duffey) was fatally shot inside her Owasso home late Thursday, and investigators are treating the case as an apparent murder–suicide after authorities say her estranged husband later shot himself at the scene.

The Incident

Owasso officers responded about 11:15 p.m. to a domestic disturbance near East 123rd Place North and North 130th East Avenue after a juvenile in the residence dialed 911. First responders discovered a woman and a man with apparent gunshot wounds. Police later identified the victims as Sara Gilson and her husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, 48. Gilson’s son reportedly witnessed the shooting but was not physically injured.

Background And Allegations

Gilson had obtained an emergency protective order against her husband weeks earlier. Court records reviewed by local media show Shawn Duffey had been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Gilson and to vacate the couple’s home. According to filings, Gilson alleged that Duffey had inappropriate contact with minors connected to youth basketball teams he coached; separate filings from a parent made similar allegations. Those claims were reported by local outlets and Yahoo News but had not been proven in court, and authorities say Duffey had not been criminally charged in connection with them before his death.

Social Media And Community

In the weeks before the shooting, Gilson posted a TikTok video referencing the accusations as part of a viral trend in which users imagine what a Netflix-style documentary about their life would reveal. Gilson worked as a hairstylist in Owasso and sold clothing and jewelry online; she is survived by two teenage children from a previous marriage. Family and friends remembered her as devoted to her children and a supportive presence for clients.

Investigation And Safety

Owasso police say there is no known ongoing threat to the public and that the investigation is active. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Owasso Police Department.
