Bedfordshire Police have launched a murder investigation after a 17-year-old boy died following a stabbing at Kingsway Recreation Ground in Luton on Friday evening.
Officers responded to reports of violent disorder at about 18:30, where several teenagers were seen carrying large knives. The 17-year-old was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds and was later pronounced dead, the force said.
One teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and is currently in police custody for questioning. A second youth was also detained and remains in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police Appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardener condemned the attack and urged the public to assist ongoing enquiries.
Det Ch Insp Gardener said: “This horrific violence has sadly cost a teenage boy his life. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this devastating time.”
Bedfordshire Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and have asked people not to share images or videos of the incident on social media. An increased police presence and extra patrols will remain in the area while enquiries continue.
