Health Canada has authorised the Dexcom G7 15‑Day CGM for adults 18 and older, offering up to 15.5 days of continuous wear and real‑time glucose monitoring. The device reports an 8% MARD and includes a 12‑hour grace period for sensor replacement, mobile app integration, waterproofing and Apple Watch connectivity. Dexcom says longer wear may reduce monthly sensor changes and material waste; however, the product is not yet available for purchase in Canada.

Health Canada has authorised the Dexcom G7 15‑Day continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for adults aged 18 years and older living with diabetes. The system delivers real‑time glucose readings and is designed to support both day‑to‑day and long‑term diabetes management.

Key Features

The G7 15‑Day sensor offers up to 15.5 days of continuous wear and reports a mean absolute relative difference (MARD) of 8%, a commonly used metric indicating the device's accuracy relative to reference glucose measurements. It includes a 12‑hour grace period to replace sensors after the wear period ends and is compatible with mobile applications that display glucose trends and patterns.

The system is waterproof and provides direct connectivity to the Apple Watch, allowing users to view glucose data without needing their phone. It also supports remote data sharing with caregivers or family members and offers configurable alerts for high, low or rapidly changing glucose levels.

Environmental and Practical Benefits

Dexcom says the extended 15.5‑day wear reduces the number of sensor changes required each month, which may lower the volume of disposable materials used. This could be an incremental benefit for users who seek fewer sensor replacements and for waste reduction efforts.

Availability and Support

Although Health Canada has authorised the G7 15‑Day system, it is not yet available for purchase in Canada. Dexcom Canada vice‑president and general manager André Côté said the company is focused on preparing support, education and resources for Canadians and their healthcare providers ahead of launch.

“Small improvements can make a meaningful difference for people living with diabetes. Dexcom G7 15 Day reflects our ongoing commitment to simpler, more seamless diabetes management,” said André Côté, Vice‑President and General Manager of Dexcom Canada. “We look forward to sharing more details as we move closer to availability.”

Dexcom develops and commercialises biosensing technologies designed for diabetes care. Last month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared Dexcom's Stelo glucose biosensor system for children, marking the agency's first over‑the‑counter CGM clearance for paediatric pre‑diabetic and diabetic patients.
