Unknown suspects detonated an explosive device at the Amaliengarten memorial in Mönchengladbach, damaging a wooden planter and four parked cars. The garden honors Amalie Jung, a Jewish woman murdered by the Nazis in 1941. The State Security Unit has assumed responsibility for the probe, and police have appealed for witness information.

Unknown perpetrators detonated an explosive device over the weekend at the Amaliengarten memorial in Mönchengladbach, western Germany, police said on Monday. The blast damaged a wooden planter that is part of the garden memorial and also caused damage to four parked cars nearby.

The Amaliengarten commemorates Amalie Jung, a Jewish woman who lived for several years on Goethestrasse in Mönchengladbach before she was murdered by the Nazis in 1941. The memorial is part of local efforts to remember victims of the Holocaust.

The State Security Unit has taken over the investigation, a step that commonly indicates authorities are treating the incident as potentially politically motivated. Police have appealed for witnesses and asked anyone who observed suspicious activity or who may have information about the perpetrators to come forward to assist the inquiry.

Note: Authorities have not released details about suspects or motives. No injuries were reported in the incident.
