The conflict in the Middle East has intensified: Iran reported 3,468 deaths linked to the fighting, while a French UN peacekeeper was killed in southern Lebanon in an incident France attributes to Hezbollah. Israel carried out demolitions near the border and struck a suspected militant cell despite a temporary truce. Iran's Revolutionary Guards issued a warning to ships near the Strait of Hormuz, and Tehran says it is reviewing new U.S. proposals amid reciprocal accusations.

The latest developments in the Middle East conflict show rising tensions across multiple fronts: new casualty figures from Iran, an attack that killed a French UN peacekeeper in southern Lebanon, Israeli demolitions near the border, and a stern naval warning from Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Iran's Reported Casualties

Iran's state-run Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs told the ISNA news agency on Saturday that confrontations involving the United States and Israel have claimed 3,468 lives inside the Islamic Republic. The figure is reported by Iranian state bodies and has not been independently verified.

Attack on UN Peacekeepers

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned an attack on United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon that left a French soldier dead and three others wounded. France has blamed Hezbollah for the strike, and a preliminary assessment by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) indicated the attack may have been carried out by the Iran-backed group.

Hezbollah's Response

Hezbollah denied involvement in the incident and urged caution in assigning blame until the Lebanese Army completes its investigation. Hezbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem also stressed that any ceasefire must be reciprocal and warned his fighters would respond to violations.

Israeli Operations in Southern Lebanon

Lebanese state media reported that Israeli forces carried out demolitions in Bint Jbeil and other border towns. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its air force eliminated a "terrorist cell" operating near its troops in southern Lebanon, describing the unit as posing an imminent threat to northern Israeli communities; the IDF did not provide casualty figures.

Iranian Naval Warning

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy warned that no ship should leave its anchorage in the Persian Gulf or the Sea of Oman and said attempts to approach the Strait of Hormuz would be treated as cooperation with the enemy and could be targeted. Tehran has previously signaled it could restrict navigation through the strategic waterway.

Diplomatic Signals Between Tehran and Washington

Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed it is reviewing "new proposals" from the United States but said negotiators would not make concessions to Washington. U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran it should not attempt to "blackmail" the United States over the fate of the Strait of Hormuz.
