Fact Check: Viral Video Falsely Claims Al Jazeera Reported Ukrainian Drone Expert Fled to France
Lead Stories says: No Such Report

Short Summary: A viral video claiming Al Jazeera reported that a Ukrainian drone specialist, Miroslav Radchenko, fled to France is false. Searches of Al Jazeera, Google News, Yahoo News and web archives turned up no corroborating reports. The footage includes images posted online earlier and matches patterns used in Russian-linked disinformation campaigns.

A widely shared video purporting to be an Al Jazeera report that a Ukrainian drone specialist named Miroslav Radchenko fled the Middle East for France is false. Careful checks of major news sites, archives and original footage show no evidence that Al Jazeera or any reputable broadcaster produced or aired the segment that circulated on social media.

What The Clip Claimed

The clip, circulated on Telegram on March 18, 2026, used an Al Jazeera logo and an English-language voice-over. It alleged that President Volodymyr Zelensky sent 12 drone-warfare specialists to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE on March 12, and that one team member, identified as Miroslav Radchenko, disappeared and was likely in France. The narration suggested travel through the region would have been difficult because of recent tensions with Iran and claimed similar disappearances had happened before.

What We Checked

  • Al Jazeera’s website and archive (no matching report found).
  • Major news aggregators (Google News, Yahoo News) for any stories naming “Miroslav Radchenko” (none found).
  • The Internet Archive for saved pages referring to the individual (no results).
  • Russian state outlets RIA Novosti and TASS, which often amplify Kremlin narratives (no matching reports in 2026).
  • Reverse-image searches and earlier postings: the video’s opening shot and images appeared online before the late-February 2026 escalation, including a Feb. 12, 2026 Instagram reel by El Confidencial and images dating to 2024–2025.

Findings

There is no authoritative record that Al Jazeera produced or broadcast the segment. The footage in the viral clip contains images that predate the events it claims to report, and searches across reputable news sites and archives do not corroborate the story or the existence of the named individual in media reports. The clip fits a known pattern of disinformation that copies the look of legitimate broadcasts to gain trust.

Context: Known Disinformation Tactics

Producing fabricated video segments that mimic established newsrooms—complete with logos and professional voice-overs—is a documented tactic used in coordinated disinformation campaigns. Similar fake-report-style videos were identified in previous operations linked to Russian-backed campaigns known as "Storm-1516" and "Matryoshka," which used networks of social accounts and fake websites to amplify misleading content.

Bottom Line: The viral video claiming to be an Al Jazeera report about Miroslav Radchenko is not supported by any traces on Al Jazeera, major news aggregators, web archives, or credible outlets and appears to be fabricated to spread false information.
