Hope Walz Says Jogging Is 'Privileged'

Hope Walz posted a late-Christmas-Eve TikTok that combined a personal holiday update with criticism of ICE, saying the agency has been "terrorizing" neighbors. The message came as she returned to the platform after a roughly two-week hiatus prompted by threatening messages. Earlier in December she posted and later removed an expletive-filled video targeting Donald Trump and his supporters after he repeated offensive remarks about Gov. Tim Walz.

Hope Walz, daughter of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, posted a late Christmas Eve TikTok in which she wished followers a Merry Christmas and criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for what she described as the agency's role in "terrorizing" neighbors. The message reached her more than 500,000 followers and mixed a personal holiday update with a political statement.

"I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all. Today, I'm holding all of our neighbors that ICE has been terrorizing near and dear to my heart and sending them love and light, as well as all of our unhoused folks — and just anybody that may be struggling right now. I'm holding you very close to me and I hope you can all do so as well. This past year has been a tough one for all of us, but I am so proud of all the work I have done in this awesome community and everything you guys do every day."

In the video, Walz also shared a lighter update, saying she has been "on skis every day" and treating herself to "some fun gifts," before turning to express solidarity with vulnerable community members.

Her Christmas message marked a return to TikTok after roughly a two-week hiatus prompted by what she described as "really scary" threats. In a Dec. 10 post explaining the break, Walz said she stepped back to protect her family while reaffirming her commitment to stand up for vulnerable people.

"I'm always going to be someone who stands up for what is right and for the little guy, but I think right now, I just have to look out for my family and for my family's safety," she said. "There is more support than there is hate, but when the 'hate' has real-life consequences, I have to take it seriously."

Earlier in December, Walz posted and later deleted an expletive-filled video aimed at former President Donald Trump and his supporters, calling them "cult members" and accusing them of mistreating her family. That outburst followed Trump's repetition of previous derogatory remarks about Gov. Tim Walz — including describing him as 'seriously retarded' — and his references to so-called "Somalian gangs" in Minnesota. The Christmas Eve video and the deleted post were first reported by Mediaite.
