Stolen Truck Rams Washington Walgreens as Suspects Try to Drag Out ATM, Deputies Say

Surveillance video released by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office shows suspects using a stolen truck to ram a Washington Walgreens and attempt to drag an ATM from the store. Deputies responded around 3:30 a.m., but the suspects fled; a second truck tied to the incident was later found abandoned in Tacoma. Officials describe the effort as a coordinated, multi-vehicle burglary that caused thousands of dollars in damage and are asking the public for tips. Investigators are also probing possible links to other regional ATM thefts.

Surveillance Captures Dramatic ATM Heist Attempt at Washington Walgreens

Newly released surveillance footage from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office shows suspects using a stolen truck to smash through the storefront of a Walgreens in Washington state and attempt to forcibly remove an ATM.

The video, posted by deputies, shows the truck repeatedly ramming the store’s front and breaking through a security gate. Two suspects then exit the vehicle, secure a chain to the ATM and attempt to drag the machine out. At one point the ATM is pulled free and dragged across the parking lot as the truck accelerates away.

Deputies responded to reports of a burglary in progress at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Witnesses told officers the stolen truck, carrying at least three people, fled the scene dragging the ATM. While searching the neighborhood, deputies located a second truck believed to be tied to the incident.

Officials say the suspects tried to recover the detached ATM during their escape but abandoned the effort when they spotted law enforcement nearby and sped off. The second truck eluded officers at the time and was later found abandoned in Tacoma.

Investigation and Public Appeal

Investigators described the incident as a coordinated, multi-vehicle burglary attempt that caused thousands of dollars in damage. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward and help identify the people and vehicles involved.

"This is a great example of why we encourage citizens to report all suspicious activity, so deputies can investigate before crimes happen," a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said. "If you see something, say something."

Deputies are also probing whether the group is linked to other recent ATM thefts in the region. With suspects still at large, officials warn they may try similar crimes in other jurisdictions and urge the public to report suspicious behavior.
