California authorities are searching for three men accused of abducting and killing 57-year-old Avtar Singh after apparently mistaking him for another person. Singh was taken from a Tracy gurdwara on Feb. 17, and his body was found near Lake Berryessa on Feb. 20. Investigators say the suspects were allegedly targeting a different man who was in Canada and had been accused of stealing a cargo trailer. The three suspects have been identified and indicted; the sheriff's office urges anyone with information to contact investigators and not to approach the suspects.

California authorities have launched a manhunt after 57-year-old Avtar Singh, a recent father of triplets, was abducted from a Sikh temple in Tracy and later found dead near Lake Berryessa in Napa County. Investigators now say Singh was likely mistaken for another man, and three suspects have been identified and indicted in connection with the kidnapping and homicide.
What Happened
San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies say Singh was reported missing from a gurdwara in Tracy on Feb. 17. Surveillance video from the temple reportedly shows three individuals dressed in dark clothing forcing Singh into a vehicle. His body was discovered three days later, on Feb. 20, in a remote area near Lake Berryessa.

Suspects And Motive
On Oct. 1 the sheriff's office named three suspects believed to be involved: Alberto Alonso Alencastro, 25; Barnabe Antonio Segura Arellano, 22; and Alfonso Cresencio Segura Arellano, 20. Investigators say the group appears to have been targeting a different man — someone accused of stealing a trailer of cargo — who was reportedly in Canada at the time. Authorities allege that Singh was kidnapped in error.
Family, Community And Response
Singh's family established a GoFundMe after his death, noting he had recently become a father to triplets who were about six months old. Family members and community leaders described him as a devoted volunteer at the gurdwara, known for his humility and quiet dedication.
