Nearly eight months after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Catalina Foothills home, investigators say a new possible ransom note has surfaced and is being reviewed by a Pima County Sheriff’s Department–FBI task force. Officials have not released the note or said who received it, and investigators are also examining related social-media comments. Earlier February communications included a $4 million cryptocurrency demand and a separate message claiming she had died; some messages were later deemed extortion. The FBI continues to seek tips.

Investigators say a new possible ransom note has emerged in the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, nearly eight months after she was last seen at her Arizona home.

Authorities Assess Credibility

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says its joint task force with the FBI was recently notified about the communication and is evaluating whether the note is credible. Officials have not disclosed where the note originated, who received it, or what it contains. The task force is also reviewing social-media comments tied to the development.

Background On The Case

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on January 31 and was reported missing the following day. No arrests have been announced and authorities continue to treat the case as a suspected kidnapping-for-ransom.

Earlier Ransom Communications

Investigators previously reviewed two notes sent in February to a Tucson television station. One message claimed Guthrie was alive and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency for her release; a second asserted she had died shortly after being taken. Authorities later released those notes publicly, hoping someone might recognize phrasing or handwriting. The FBI has said some communications were identified as extortion, while others remain under investigation.

Evidence And Appeal For Tips

Surveillance footage released by the FBI showed a masked individual appearing to tamper with a security camera at Guthrie’s home around the time she disappeared. The FBI’s case page remains active, and Guthrie’s family has repeatedly urged anyone with information to come forward. Investigators have not shared details about any social-media commenters or whether those posts have yielded useful leads.

Note: Authorities continue to evaluate all leads and encourage anyone with relevant information to contact law enforcement.
