Acting police chief Lt Gen Puleng Dimpane described the arrests as a "breakthrough" and said officers are "working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice." Deputy police chief Lt Gen Tebello Mosikili said analysts are examining whether the nine cases are connected but cautioned investigators have not yet established a serial-killer pattern. He added that Ntimba's killing "appears to be an indication of a murder that stemmed from a relationship" and mentioned a possible "love triangle" as one line of inquiry.
