A 69-year-old Long Island man placed a frantic 911 call during a violent attack that prosecutors say left him dead from roughly 40 stab wounds. Authorities have accused his 33-year-old son of entering the apartment and fatally stabbing him in the early hours of Sept. 7 in Mastic, New York.
Incident Details
Suffolk County Police responded at about 12:30 a.m. after receiving an emergency call from Edward Brown, who reported being stabbed inside his studio apartment. Neighbors told investigators they heard a loud bang followed by the victim screaming. During the call, Edward can be heard shouting, "I'm being murdered. What are you doing to me, Sage?" according to the district attorney's office.
Investigation and Arrest
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Edward Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. When officers entered the apartment they found him unresponsive and "covered in blood." An autopsy later determined the victim suffered approximately 40 stab wounds to the torso, chest and neck.

Ten days after the killing, prosecutors announced that Edward's son, 33-year-old Sage Arias-Brown, had been arrested and indicted on a charge of second-degree murder. A neighbor reported seeing a man leave the apartment minutes after the 911 call; officers later located and detained Sage about half a mile from the scene.
Prosecutor's Statement and Charges
"This defendant is accused of viciously taking the life of his 69-year-old father as the victim desperately called the police for help," said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. "The facts in this case are heartbreaking. This indictment is an important step towards holding the defendant accountable for the brutal violence he allegedly inflicted on his own parent."
Remembering Edward Brown
Friends and family remembered Edward in an obituary as a devoted father and social worker with a love of music and nature. The notice described him as "a seeker, a philosopher, and a lifelong learner," and encouraged those who mourn him to honor his memory by doing things that bring joy—listening to live music, singing a favorite song, or walking by the ocean or in the woods.
Legal Status
Sage Arias-Brown is being held without bail and faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life if convicted. He is due back in court on Oct. 21.
